It's major suckage for me to attempt this because I am horrible with introducing myself to anyone for anything. Anyways, my name is Teresa and I am in my twenties -- at that halfway point to my midlife crisis. At least that's how it feels nearly everyday. I enjoy long walks (I really do), taking pictures of everything, reading trashy romance novels and drooling over media-claimed womanizers like Gerard Butler and John Mayer; even though Mayer always has me going that he's on some sort of medication. It's that sleepy slope of his eyes, I swear. Anyway, I'm silly and weird and I swear I'm nice. Add me because my journal is super-empty? :( It gets lonely in here.

- So tell us Mark, now at the very end - what was your secret? How did you get all them girls?
- Simple. Don't say anything at all.
- Nothing?
- Nothing. Then, when the tension becomes too much to bear, you finally, finally, you just say: "How about it, then?"

Hellos, my name's Birdie, I'm 23 and I used to have an IJ forever and a day ago but I fell out of the whole online journal thing - I think I'm ready to pick it back up.

Interests: Drawing, illustration (art in general), corsetry, books, collecting odds and ends; for example I'm on a serious penguin kick right now.
Hobbies: Reading, watching Tim Curry movies, helping my friend run his nightclub once a week, making coffee, arting, making new friends, knitting
What are you reading right now?: The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher - currently halfway through book 6 Blood Rites

I'm hoping to find interesting people who I'll get along with...that means pretty much anybody. Just as long as you don't bring drama to me, and are generally friendly then we'll get along just fine. :)

In the dark on the phone, you tell me the names of your brothers and your favorite colors; I'm learning you. And when it snows again, we'll take a walk outside and search the sky like children do, I say to you no way November will see our goodbye. When it comes to December, it's obvious why: no one wants to be alone at Christmastime. And come January, we're frozen inside, making new resolutions a hundred times. February, won't you be my valentine? And we'll both be safe 'til St. Patrick's Day.

Well, I am nearly at the end of the Secret Lab dungeon now. I don't expect to beat the boss there first time because...well...that just won't happen. I am quite surprised that I haven't started to come across enemies who spam Hama and/or Mudo, although I kind of expect this boss to do that because I know spoilers.

I am probably tempting fate, right?

I have nearly maxed Yumi's link (thank fuck; it was getting depressing) and started Ai's (man, she is annoying. I've heard she gets better, but...I don't know as I believe it). I've got most of my team members up to level seven except for two (I am deliberately messing with the game to see who gets the Xmas date if two of the girls are on equal levels. On the other hand, I might have both of those maxed by Xmas anyway (I'm only in September)).

I have some awesome personae (none of whom I can remember the names of :( although I think I've got most of the angels so far and also most of the Indian goddesses *wonders if there is Kali and can't remember from P3*) Also I have gone fusion mad! But it means I have personae more akin to my level than the ones I am getting from shuffles. But at the moment I am lacking any who can use Garu for when I don't take Yosuke (I seem to be levelling everyone fairly evenly, which surprises me. Except Kanji, because he is AWESOME - so he's nearly the same level as the main character).

~*~

I should probably post this since it's been sitting here for nearly an hour and I haven't thought of anything else to say.

fangirling meme [26 Nov 2009|06:52pm]

(Tagged by [info]barush)

1)List 5 celebrities you would have sex with without even asking questions.
2) Put all of them IN ORDER of your lust for them [5 - 1, 1 is the hottest].
3) Say which movie/show/thing it was that hooked you.
4) Supply photos for said people.
5) Tag five friends to do the same.
(Not tagging anyone, feel free to steal)

Hugh Laurie would've totally made it to the list, but I've never seen him outside the House series, and the person I actually lust after is Dr. House, not the actor behind the role - so listing him would be unfair. This is the case with most of the movie stars - with the rare exceptions, I have no interest in the real-life "counterparts" of the fictional characters. Of course I realize that it's the same with musicians - the person we see on the stage is NOT the same one IRL - but the distinction is more vague, especially with various facts & interviews which are leaking onto the image.

Also, decided to restrict this meme to the non-dead people.

antichrist [26 Nov 2009|01:34pm]

Saw a wonderful new movie "Antichrist" (IMDB link, to avoid spoilers) (thanks again to [info]barush for the rec!)

First of all, it's amazingly beautiful, a real work of art! Stunning visuals, great soundtrack, very atmospheric; the action is very slow so you can sit back and appreciate every detail.

Second, it's exploring the darkness of human psyche. The main theme is insanity/irrationality. There's a fair bit of sex and violence, but it's not an ordinary "Hollywood horror flick" - rather, a psychological drama. No good vs evil, no prosthetic monsters, gunfights and car chases, all the creepiness comes from within.

I was a little disappointed that I didn't find it shocking and disturbing as it's allegedly supposed to be. After some contemplation I came to the conclusion that violence doesn't turn me on unless it's linked to control/power. When the perpetrator lacks any self-confidence and is probably more scared than the victim, it's just not the same.

In any case, it's extremely enjoyable for the artistic qualities, and hopefully rewatchable. Also, a little scene at the very end (before the epilogue), even that it didn't last more than a few seconds, made me completely happy. And the dedication to Andrej Tarkovsky (Russian film director) at the end practically made me squeee, because I love his movies and was constantly thinking that the style is so similar.

Highly recommended for all the fans of dark art. Of course, hopefully everyone here knows my aesthetic tastes well enough, to avoid taking the rec the wrong way and being tricked into watching something you'd hate :) Here's a quote from the Wiki about the movie production - not a spoiler, just to show what we're dealing with: "it is the real "porno double's" penis that is seen, with fake blood being sprayed by the prop crew."

The Wiki mentions that there will be a game "Eden", which starts where the film ends. Another quote: "It will be a self-therapeutic journey into your own darkest fears, and will break the boundaries of what you can and can't do in video games," says video game director Morten Iversen. WANT WANT WANT!!

The moral of the story, in my personal interpretation (I assure you it has nothing to do with what the author wanted to say ;) - if you're stuck with somebody insane, never try to "help" on the basis of your own silly theories, but do it professionally - which involves the medications, possibly electroshock therapy and restraints, and in general all the technical achievements of the modern medicine. Or alternatively, you have to remain in full control every moment, and be able to genuinely hurt them, as much as required - it's for their own good.

You want to know the truth about high school? You've got to break it down into its elements. Unfortunately, at St. Donovan's, the periodic table is more crooked than a case of scoliosis. Just give me the chance and I'll set it all straight. Case in point, Spanish homework. "Dame un batido de esperma" does not mean, "Take me to the airport." It means, "Give me a sperm milkshake." And 22 kids gave that as an answer in Spanish III last week. I'm not sure about the milkshake, but somebody is sure feeding us something sticky. Every clique on campus is copying the same damn homework. Burn-outs, pretty boys, drama-dorks, jocks, debaters, player-haters, you name it. Oh, it's big, all right. And I'm on it like pink rubber bands on your little sister's braces. The name's Bobby Funke. I write for the paper.

Criminal Minds [25 Nov 2009|02:47pm]

bitterfig

About two weeks ago I watched an episode of the television show Criminal Minds for the first time.

I usually avoid police procedural show but I was interested because rock star Gavin Rossdale was guest-starring as a sort of strung-out vampire rock star (not that I’m exactly a Gavin Rossdale fan, but I liked him well enough in Constantine).

Watching the show I ended up being pretty impressed by androgynous boy genius Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) so yesterday when I saw there were reruns showing on several channels I ended up watching a couple episodes.

When not ogling Matthew Gray Gubler’s cheekbones, I was pleased to discover that Mandy Patinkin was on the earlier episodes of the show. I’ve had a thing for Mandy Patinkin for about 20 years—when I was in high school I listened obsessively to his recording of the musical Evita. Patinkin was gone in more recent episodes of the show, but I found myself surprised and unexpectedly pleased by another character, an FBI computer technician called Penelope Garcia (Kristen Vangsness).

Now I’ve always loved support staff type characters, from secretaries Marilyn (Northern Exposure) and Elaine (Ally McBeal) to sour techie Chloe (24) but in addition to her behind-the-scenes sort of position the thing about Garcia that really endeared her to me was that she was a female character on a mainstream television show who was not skinny. She was cute and sexy and curvy and plump and voluptuous. I don’t follow a lot of television shows but I honestly can’t think of the last time I saw a not skinny female character. Probably teenaged Sara Rue on Popular (she ended up slimming down for her own show Less Than Perfect).

I’ve watched a grand total of 3 ¾ episodes of Criminal Minds, so for all I know Garcia might be a totally stereotypical “overweight” character who does nothing but provide comic relief talk about diets but I don’t think so. It seemed to me like there was some sort of romantic thing going on between her and FBI agent, Morgan, and generally she seemed like someone who was really competent and well regarded by her peers. I’m really curious now to watch more of the show and she how she’s handled.
